About IBO


The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) was founded in the 1960�s as a non-profit educational foundation. The international Baccalaureate Organization is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and is recognized worldwide for high standards, articulated expectations and rigorous curriculum. The IBO is an international symbol of academic integrity and intellectual promise, and has participating schools in over 100 countries and around the world.


IBO Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the IBO works with schools, government and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people with their differences can also be right.


There are three different IB Programmes

International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program


The MYP provides students with a rigorous academic program, and it is guided by three major themes:

  • A holistic view of knowledge
  • Intercultural awareness
  • Communication

Curriculum


The curriculum focuses on eight academic subject groups that are studies in each year of the program.

  1. Language A (English)
  2. Language B (World Language)
  3. Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry)
  4. Humanities (World History and Geography)
  5. Science (Earth Science and Biology)
  6. Arts (Art Design, Music, Drama)
  7. Physical Education (Health, Individual and Team Sports)
  8. Technology (Design Cycle)

Overview of Middle Years Program


The IB Middle Years Programme provides an accelerated curriculum that focuses on a world language, English, mathematics, humanities, sciences, arts, physical education, and technology. Currently there are only 200 schools in the world that offer this program.

The program begins in 6th grade and continues through 10th grade. Admission testing is not required, but students must be highly motivated, have a solid academic record.

Most students start the program at the elementary level; however, there are a limited amount of spaces available for incoming 9th graders. A parent-student interview is required.

International Baccalaureate IB Diploma Program


The Bogan IB Diploma Programme is a rigorous, well-rounded pre-university course of study for highly motivated high school students. Known for its intellectual discipline and high academic standards, the IB Program aims to develop critical and compassionate thinkers who will be informed participants in our global society.

The IB learner profile is the IB mission statement translated into a set of learning outcomes for the 21st century.

The learner profile provides a long-term vision of education. It is a set of ideals that can inspire, motivate and focus the work of schools and teachers, uniting them in a common purpose.

How Do I Get in the Program?


Reside in Bogan�s attendance area. Be highly motivated and desire a rigorous academic program. Have excellent attendance and academic background. Come with a willingness to put in the time and effort to be successful. Parental support is a key component to the IB program.


Unique Course Requirements


Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

A two-year interdisciplinary course, which explores the relationships of various disciplines to one another and to life.

Extended Essay (EE)

An extended essay of 4,000 words requiring independent research is developed.

Creativity, Action and Service (CAS)

Participation in creative athletic and service activities is fostered.


Curriculum


Once authorized the IB Programme requires that students pass exams in six subject groups.

  • Language A (English)
  • Language B (World Language)
  • Study of Individuals and Society (European history, American History)
  • Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus)
  • Experimental Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • Electives from the subjects of Art or Music
